SS14 Eyewear Trends

. April 02, 2014 .

Alas fashion month is over. Building our spring wardrobes will help occupy us whilst we readjust. Some trends are carrying through to next autumn/winter here’s what to back when you are updating for S/S14.

Pastels
Cool weather pastels felt fresh this winter. The trend continues as Miu Miu, Gucci, Celine, Givenchy and Chloe all sent pastels down the runway in their recent A/W14 collections. Celine’s new colourways for its Original give you gorgeous crystal pale colour that excels all year round. Indeed they’re a good match (or more likely alternative) for Celine’s pale Lucite jumbo jewels seen on the Paris show.  Celine Original

Monochrome
Tom Ford, Alexander McQueen, Gucci, Dior and Chloe kept mono going. Karl Lagerfeld’s signature sunglasses have been created by Italia Independent for some time now, sure enough he appeared on the runway in them at the Grand Palais days ago. He takes the relationship further with a collaboration. Karl for Italia adds ingenious faceting to classic sunglasses shapes. The brand’s washable I-Velvet provides a unique sensuality to eyewear that will live up to the lashings of fur that will beckon next autumn. Karl for Italia KL002s

Sports Chic
When both Chanel and Christian Dior put trainers on the couture runway last month sports chic reached a new height. These are simply clothes that are practical, part of our lives. For A/W14-15 ready-to-wear Chanel again did trainers after the high demand of the couture pieces. At Chanel’s recent Paris show there were zippable pieces, tracksuits in bouclé and a tweed ski suit. It’s like Chanel herself said "Luxury must be comfortable, otherwise it is not luxury’. Peter Pilotto added fur and embellishment to sporty pieces, at Miu Miu eighties outerwear was the starting point. At Dior there white trainer lacing ran through the clean cut dresses and coats. Indeed the Dior trainers were backed with heels this time. Stella McCartney turned zip innovation into an art form. Stella McCartney’s 4045 flatters but offers a deft flat top. Stella’s signature stripe provides the perfect sporty verve. Mirrored lenses provide the final flash of genius.   Stella McCartney 4045

Print
The artsy streak continues into next year as Chanel and Chloe in Paris, Prada in Milan and Burberry in London all made much of print. Valentino’s camouflage  brings a tough –luxe look to a classic print in the V656SC. Cool metal and pastel are ticked off too. We’ve already spotted Diane Kruger in this one. She matched it with camo hi-tops. Valentino V656SC

Embellishment
Embellishment continues to be taken to new places. At Peter Piloto beading was at its most contemporary yet. Dolce and Gabbana was inspired by medieval monarchs and decked models in crystal décor. Miu Miu, Valentino and Dior were moved to make its winter flora really stand out in embellishment. How could Miu Miu’s sunglasses be more wantable? By splicing them with the house’s jewellery collection.  Miu Miu’s Glow 04PS brings together the coveted jewellery with its iconic Noir eyewear. Sixteen hand placed crystals decorate the face.  Miu Miu 04PS
