Kew Royal Botanic Gardens

Tropical Sanctuary

. January 17, 2016 .

This weeks remedy for beating the bite of the London cold? Escaping to a steamy tropical sanctuary - and I didn't even have to leave the city. It's having hidden gems like these Victorian glass houses  in Kew Gardens right on your doorstep that make living in London so special.

After a week of working all hours, Lizzy and I decided to get some fresh air on Thursday, but of course, it was bloody freezing. Liz then had the marvelous idea of visiting Kew, which is just around the corner from where we live in Fulham, where we could enjoy some open space then hide from the cold in these grand tropical glass-houses.

I'd been once before with my family and remembered how beautiful the grounds were, so we jumped in an uber, SLR in tow, exited to explore the picturesque gardens. It was so freezing we spent the majority of the afternoon basking in the warmth of the glass house, not forgetting to take lots of pictures along the way.

This palm-saturated background made for the perfect setting for shooting my favourite new Revolve pieces by some of by favourite LA-based brands. The intricate lace detail on this Tularosa blouse is so beautiful, the black makes for a perfect transitional piece and incorporates last year's lace-up neckline trend which shows no signs disappearing this S/S. Also from Revolve are these awesome biker jeans by Lovers + Friends which look awesome juxtaposed with the girly blouse.

Though, as much as I love all the California vibes, a good British trench was more than necessary in this weather. This classic ankle-length one is a special new addition to my wardrobe. Dave's mum kindly gave it to me over the Christmas break, she replaced it after it lost it's waterproof last year but it's still such a timeless piece and I'm so grateful she let me give it a second life. I've always loved quality vintage and second hand fashion, not only is it lovely to think of whatever previous life your garment has had but giving a bit of clothing a new lease of life is so economical.

Hope you enjoyed taking a faux trip to the tropics with me in today's editorial - don't forget to checkout the pieces I'm wearing below. And, if you're in London, make sure to pay a visit to Kew Gardens - I promise it's just as beautiful in low season and you'll save a few pounds!
