Park Lane, Mayfair

Staying at The Athenaeum Hotel & Residences

. February 27, 2017 .
Now I'm Bristol based, commuting to London is a weekly ritual I've gotten used to two or three times a week, but I rarely stay over. Do I miss city life? Of course. Getting a 6 am train sometimes isn't the most fun, and having to leave a dinner event early to hot-foot it over to Paddington and catch the last train home can often be a right pain.

But one thing moving away has allowed me to do, is to appreciate London more as the magnificent place it is. Living in my small flat in Fulham, it was so easy to complain about things like rush hour on the tube, extortionate rent or even the rain and humidity, and frankly, take all the wonderful aspects for granted. But now when I visit, I make the most of London's beauty between meetings and enjoy the city with a fresh set of eyes.

So, when London Fashion Week came around and it was the first season that I wasn't living in London, I decided to do things a little differently and made sure I had somewhere perfect and central to stay to help the hectic event run smoothly. Spending my first night of LFW at the stunning Athenaeum Hotel & Residences on Mayfair's Picadilly not only set me in the perfect location to attend my shows, but provided the perfect luxury haven to enjoy some downtime and the best of London itself.

Situated up on the fourth floor, my gorgeous deluxe double room had a beautiful view over Green Park through floor length windows that filled the room with natural light. It had everything I needed to enjoy a relaxing and luxurious stay, from a fully stocked mini bar and a welcome bottle of Chablis (which I promptly lapped up come 7 pm!) and Nespresso machine, to a perfect working desk space, floor length mirrors and an outrageously comfortable kingsize bed. Oh, and let's not forget the jaw-droppingly gorgeous all-marble bathroom.

The hotel also boasts a beautiful modern breakfast and lobby area that gave me all of the interior goals, in addition to an elegant but cosy cocktail bar that's open until 1 am ( where I may or may not have enjoyed a couple of 'spresso martinis). One of my favourite features, though, was the living wall that runs from the ground floor right up to the penthouse on the outside wall of the hotel. Filled with beautiful flora and fauna it's a great bit of biodiversity in London and something I've admired for years when driving down Park Lane, so you can imagine my excitement to finally be staying in the building itself!

For a girls or couples weekend, this place is somewhere you definitely have to try. The location is just perfect, the opposite park provides enough peace and quiet yet you're a stone's throw from Londons best attractions and the buzzing Mayfair nightlife. One place I'd recommend visiting that's just a couple of minutes walk away is the gorgeous square called Shepherds Market, filled with adorable pubs, restaurants and bars. Just around the corner from that is also Burger & Lobster where we enjoyed the most delicious Friday night dinner.

Thank you so much to The Athenaeum for having me during London Fashion Week and especially to their wonderful staff who made me feel so welcome throughout the stay. For more information on the hotel or to book your stay, visit their website here.
